We aim to deliver an effective, military-style roleplay without the confines of protocol that would ultimately dissipate personal character. The Vanguard has more akin to a mercernary band if such things existed amongst the Daevas than it does to your typical, ordered troops.

The Daevas of the Sanctum frown upon the Vanguard's existence, often accusing the legion of warmongering and comparing them to the likes of Lord Azphel and those who would in the end become the Asmodians. But not all Daevas share these views and there are those amongst the Sanctum's leadership who have faith in Deveran's renewed will and in his quest for redemption. They see the Vanguard's potential. They see their genuine devotion to the Elyos.

Let the Sunborne Vanguard be home to those who strive for the survival of the Elyos, but cannot find a home amongst the idealistic legions of the Sanctum. Let it be home to those brave men and women who will form the front line against the devilish Balaur and the shadow-spawned Asmodians.

Additional notes on the Vanguard's Concept:

The Sunborne Vanguard was originally constructed as a military unit; this is still somewhat true today. They serve Elysea, but do not report directly to High Command. Instead, they work along side military units to aid in their goals, when these goals coincide with the Vanguard's primary mission. To this end, the Vanguard's members are composed of a variety of different individuals with varied backgrounds (much like a mercenary unit) but united in their cause against the Balaur. The Vanguard is a place for redemption; regardless of what crimes or misdeeds which may have taken place in the past, members are reborn when they join, much like the mythical Phoenix depicted in our heraldry. We embrace our past and learn from our mistakes, but through the guard we take these lessons and use them to forge ourselves anew.

For many ages the Vanguard has been lost; recently, our own Lord Deveran has returned to renew our pledge to the people of Elysea, and has had our ancient fortress, the Sungarde, rebuilt to serve it's new members. Though Lord Deveran has taken a permanent leave of absence to care for his beloved Ciele, he has left the legion in the capable hands of a new generation of Daeva who are dedicated to the Vanguard's original mission.
